Music and Makeovers

I'm here! In case you're wondering if I just fell off the planet  or something:-)

Its been a crazy busy week...I dived headlong into a couple of DIY's without fully thinking them through and am now sort of stuck, I got the living and dining rooms repainted a lovely mustardy yellow (sounds awful, but its not), I am reorg'ing my kitchen, we are restarting our kitchen organic garden now that the rains are here!!!

So, all in all a busy time. Here is a quick peek at one wall of the newly repainted living room...

And all through that busy time, this song, has been haunting me! Its a Bengali song, for a commercial for the newly built Tata Medical Center in Kolkata. I heard it about 2 weeks ago and it took me a few days to find out what it was, and I have to share it with you all. Its beautiful!

Here are 2 versions, both heart wrenchingly beautiful. The first for the children in it, who are being treated at the Medical Center. The second one for the music.

Here is the TV ad which had me at the very first line even though I didn't understand a single word of it "Tumi Shunona Amar Kotha"

And here is the original song in its entirety in the TV series it featured in

I'll be posting pics of all that I have been doing soon.....!

What a melodious tune that is and so touching the whole thing. Huh!!! 'TIME is running out' - Why doesn't this time run out for the cancerous breed of corrupt politicans, tax evaders and the hopeless system. Birla's Tata's, Reliance and all others - can totally cater to the entire population of India with such services. Hope one day they see the precious smile of that cured child.

Anpu - you're an angel in disguise, thank you.

Neha - The bottom one - the bells is my work, but copy of an original. The one above it is a photograph by my artist/photographer friend Param Bedi, the one to the left is an original I bought at a craft bazaar here from the painter.

The mustard yellow is a fine choice of colour for the wall.

The emotion in the tune is striking, partly for the cause in concern, and the inherrent beauty in the nature of rendition, and of the language even if one is unfamiliar wit it.

I love the color, it is so soothing, can't wait to see the colors you have painted in other rooms. Change is always good.
It has been a long time, do keep in touch.

I love the color! We are in the process of doing our basement and I wanted bright colors since we have neutral all over the house. In the end, I chickened out and took a light taupe (parisian taupe from BEHR). May be I will pick this mustardy color for my new craft room atleast :) PS: Wondering if you would cover M.F. Hussain's demise. I was 100% ignorant of this artist till the controversy started. Wonder what you have to say. Perhaps you have said it with your silence LOL.

You know rk - I was strongly tempted to do a post on MFH. But really I wouldn't cover anything new that people already didn't know about. And I really was not a huge fan of his so it would have been hypocritical. But I must tell you I googled some of his controversial paintings and I did find them a bit offensive! But art is art...very subjective! :-)

K- have you heard this bengali son that Dithi used as a background for a painting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRk4jcC3yCI My exposure to bengali songs has been minimal- but I've loved all the ones I've heard so far :) And I want to see the rest of the wall!

Kamini, glad to hear your opinion on MFH paintings. I will google more and see the controversial paintings. I agree that art is subjective but when it touches on any one's religious sentiments, that's being offensive in my mind. It's no different than a Muslim being offended because of Prophet Mohammed's cartoons or a Christian offended because some one painted a cross on a toilet seat etc. Sadly, some one in CA actually marketed toilet seats with Indian Gods/Godesses painted on them!!! That's crossing the line and I don't believe in offending any religion that way. Just my two cents, thanks.

"Tumi Shono Na Amar Kotha..." is in every way haunting. Only days back, I happened to write about it. And today, by sheer coincidence I came across it again here in your blog. The song is indeed beautiful. When you catch its lyrics and meaning, you begin to melt. Check out my blog.

By the way, you have an attractive blog. I promise to return soon. Regards
