Happy Weekend!

So how is everyone's weekend going? I hope its a fun weekend. I am doing a little bit of everything. My Sunday started off with a power breakfast, yogurt with walnuts, raisins, blueberries, cranberries, apricots and honey.

Since it looks like the incessant rain has finally let up, I'll get some seeds planted this morning....
then I have to arm myself with cupfuls of green tea....
and then figure out this new Macbook. I've been sort of fumbling my way through, but I cannot procrastinate any more.
Then in the evening, my good friend Param who is visiting from Virginia is coming over for dinner and I plan to make some Basboosa for dessert by following this recipe from Sayantani!

Hopefully by Monday morning I should be a lot more Macbook savvy!!! Have a great one!

What is your Sunday plan?

Yay its Sunday! Even though I don't work, there is something relaxing about a Sunday! So what am I doing today?

Well....to start with, for lunch I am making Rajma/Chawal (Red kidney beans and rice)....
Recipe:
Soak 2C rajma overnight. Wash and pressure cook the rajma. Keep aside. Heat 2T oil in a pan, add 1" piece crushed ginger, 5 cloves chopped garlic and 3 chopped green chillies. Fry until they turn brown. Add 1 diced onions and 3 chopped tomatoes. Cook until masala separates from oil. Add salt, a pinch turmeric powder and mix well. Add the cooked rajma, 1 tsp red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala and stir. Simmer the flame and cook until a thick gravy is formed. Remove from fire. Garnish rajma with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
Along with that I'll have some Aloo Gobi (Curried potatoes with cauliflower)
Recipe:
Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan. Add 1tsp cumin seeds + 1/2 tsp turmeric powder + 1" finely chopped ginger. Fry & stir for 10 seconds. Add one medium size finely chopped onion and fry until translucent. Add 2 potatoes (peeled and chopped). Cook on medium heat until the potatoes are half done. Stir occassionally. By this time the onions should be nicely browned. Add one cauliflower (broken into florets by hand) + 1tsp garam masala + 1 tsp chili powder + juice of 1/2 lime. Mix well. Cover and cook until the cauliflower is done and the potatoes are soft.
Than after lunch, sit down with the Sunday crossword with coffee, or.....
......Moroccan mint tea in my Moroccan mint tea set bought last year in Granada.
Then if I have time, a spot of gift wrapping
And then finally head to the gym to burn off those calories...!

What does your Sunday hold for you??? Whatever it is, enjoy the day!

Mosaic Monday - Relaxing Sunday

This week my Mosaic Monday is all about my relaxing Sunday! It rained all day, not a torrential downpour or an irritating drizzle....but somewhere in between! Not enough to deluge the garden but enough to keep things wet and soggy and make the dogs go stir crazy and start chewing things in the house! But I enjoyed it. My Sunday really was a mosaic of things - I did the Sunday crossword, read my book, sipped on hot coffee, sat in my covered balcony and marvelled at this green twisty wondrous water plant growing for which I still have no name, played indoors with my 2 dogs, did a bit of oil painting, went to the gym, ran on the treadmill while watching "So you think you can Dance" and wished again that I had been born a dancer, did a spot of yoga and read through all the design blogs I follow.....! It couldn't have been better!

Thank you again Mary, for hosting this! Its always fun!

Sunday morning adventure

Sunday's Shenanigans by "me".

It started out normal like any Sunday
The streets were all empty, no cars in the way
So off we set out to walk our dachshunds
Who were excitedly jumping in leaps and in bounds
Blithely we walked not a care in our heads
Till Lucy our doxie spotted a stray dog ahead
She charged at said street dog, she tugged and she pulled
Her collar came undone, she ran as fast as she could
The street dog and Lucy then came face to face
While Raga chased Lucy at a furious pace
To make sure that ST (that's "street dog" for short)
Did not bite our Lucy in this canine sport
He let go off Junglee our other black doxie
Who then ran after ST showing courage and moxie
So now we have Lucy and Junglee both chasing
The ST, with Raga and me behind racing
Then Raga tripped over a samll rock on the road
He yelled and he screamed and he moaned and he groaned
He got back on his feet, the dogs were still running
By then we had all the neighborhood dogs barking
Then believe it or not it was my turn to fall
I too tripped on something and went for a sprawl
By now all the people had got up and come out
To see what all this commotion was about
Instead of the Sunday being calm and serene
Were 3 dogs and 2 humans creating a scene
By now J and L had slowed down quite a bit
So we caught them and leashed them and decided to split
We carried them home while they wriggled and squirmed
No more Sunday walks with them we confirmed
Then Raga drove off to the emergency
And came back later with a bandaged knee
His palm is all swollen from the fall that he took
Nothing too serious, he can still get on Facebook
A tetanus shot and a ice cold compress
Has taken away the pain and the stress
Both Junglee and Lucy are tired and exhausted
So all morning long they've been asleep on the bed
My fall was not severe, I don't hurt a lot
My bruises are mild, its my nerves that are shot!

Happy Sunday

What are your weekend plans? Are you going to be lazy and read a book? Watch a movie? Do the Sunday crossword? Taste some wine? I plan on picking up my paintbrush after an almost 2 month long hiatus. I might actually experiment with charcoal pastels and give oil paints a break....! Today I stumbled into a bit of good luck and met an amazing artist...that too a world renowned artist. I mean I literally stumbled into his studio.......but more on that in Tuesday's post. Till then have a fabulous weekend....!

Lazy Sunday....

I love Sundays. Somehow you feel justified in being lazy....drink coffee, browse the newspapers, try the Sunday crossword while having a nice long leisurely breakfast. These days my breakfast of choice...inspired by my trip to Istanbul last summer - is a bowlful of yogurt topped with raisins, walnuts, apricots and drizzled with a generous spoonful of honey! Mmmmm...Perfect summer food and surely what the gods eat!
