What is the appeal of lanterns? Do they remind us of a bygone era, a simpler world of our great grandparents where guests sat on the front porch sharing stories? Or do they evoke memories of a sensuous and mystical place like Morocco or Istanbul and instantly whisk you away to some far away land? Whatever the reason, lanterns still hold a magical place in the world of lighting and design, and these glowing beacons still evoke the same warm, welcoming feeling. A pretty simple backyard becomes mysterious and enchanting with a few hanging lanterns, a bedroom takes on a romantic avatar with a lantern on a table, its lights casting flickering shadows on the walls, a dining table lined with a row of lanterns will make you believe you are eating couscous, eggplant and olives......
While the lantern's original design was purely utilitarian (the glass sides shield the candle's burning flame from wind and weather), today's lantern is not only functional, its beautiful as well. Here is some lantern lurvv for you.....

Love all of them, K. Lanterns were such a functional, utilitarian thing in my Grandparents' home. I wish I had kept some from my Dida's.
I love lanterns!!! Lovely post.
Superlike! Especially the photo of the bathroom setting!
I can see you exercising self-restraint here K- I only spotted 1 image of Moroccan lanterns :)
Sheer eye candy. Loved each and every one of those pictures!
nothing like the pieces hanging in your entranceway..
Beautiful... Love the wild garden table with metal lantern centerpieces. It is amazing the way lanterns match every type of indoor and outdoor settings.
Loved all the pics.. esp the 7th one... The lanterns in that pic are gorgeous... !!
I love lanterns too, especially for relaxing evenings! I must use mine indoors too...must plan a nice lantern night one of these days.
Lovely! I just got a lantern in picture 7. But I am hardly the kind that will soak in the bathtub with candles all around me :). So I have kept it under my jasmine plant and keep a candle inside it. I have quite a few lanterns but have no clue what to do with them :). I am terrified of having real candles when kids visit. So I am now putting those tiny little LED flickering candles. Only problem, I forget to switch them off!
