Designer profile - John Robshaw

John Robshaw - I cannot remember where I read about him before, it was on one of the design blogs but for the life of me I cannot remember....! So I may be totally repeating it here, so apologies for that!

Anyway, lets cut to the chase...JR is an American designer, lives in Connecticut and in love with all things Indian! On one of his trips to Mumbai he discovered the art of block printing, went to Gujarat and Rajasthan to work alongside artisans, and has never looked back since. After numerous messy attempts on canvas as artwork, he finally figured out the technique...and the rest as they say, is history! His home is now lavishly decorated with block printed textiles, many if which he has done on his own. Here are some pics form his home, a wonderful juxtaposition of a Connecticut country house with tribal furniture and Indian textiles, which are featured in the October issue of the online magazine, Lonny! I am warning you, it is beautiful!
His Connecticut home
A hand stitched Indian blanket in his guest room

A temple hanging from India in vegetable dyes painted on natural, handwoven cotton. The side table and barrel chair are from Nagaland.
 Lovely lovely lovely....

A farmhouse table on an Indian rug. On the back wall are Robshaw originals, block prints he made on canvas while experimenting with new colors and designs.
A brass bed and vintage lamps. On the wall is a folk textile from Barmer, Rajasthan; at the foot of the bed is his mom's old traveling trunk!

 The blue room
The banquette was made in India, an indigo dyed quilt made by a turban maker outside Jaipur. Those are lampshade frames on the wall...!
The second guest room, the lilac room. A hand embroidered Peruvian textile above the bed

Totally awe inspiring isn't it? To read more on John Robshaw, check out his blog here!

Inspiring. I love the touches of India in his home and work. Those block print moulds are something I am looking for here and no luck!

I was going to do a post on him too! But doubt I would have done as good a job. His eye for colour combos and those blocks *sigh*
