Aman New Delhi - an oasis of calm in the cacophony that is New Delhi!

For me as a designer, I am always thrilled when I see beautiful design and architecture in our country. What really got me excited recently is a brand new addition to the Indian landscape in the field of hospitality - the Aman New Delhi, Amanresorts’ newest city-based resort. It is a luxurious retreat in spacious surroundings, offering guests an ideal base from which to explore the city’s many diverse charms.

From the outside, the modern and meticulously composed Aman New Delhi, which opened last fall, appears downright spartan. But inside, the hotel -- ensconced in the colonial neighborhood of Lutyens' Delhi -- offers a sublime tranquility that's hard to come by in India's cacophonous city of seventeen million.

Aman New Delhi captures the ultimate in elegance just a stone’s throw from some of India’s most iconic sites. With luxurious rooms and suites framing an exquisite courtyard, the dark timber panels, locally-quarried stone and jaali screens create an inviting aura of mystery in this charming resort. The sixty-seven spacious rooms have been given light Moghul design touches. In the evenings, a santoor player plucks gentle tunes while guests dine quietly at the casual tapas bar or in the more elegant pan-Asian restaurant.

We have a long way to go in terms of cutting edge design but at the rate we are going, it won't be long before Indian architectural companies will rival any world class company! We have an added advantage of years and years of culture and history which we can integrate into our architectural details, creating a wonderful synthesis of tradition and modernity!

Delhi has been begging for a respite from its chaos, and Aman has definitely delivered. I don't think I can ever afford to pay $750 for a night and stay at a hotel like this, so let me get my thrills by gawking at the pictures of the interiors. Take a look yourself and you will understand why it is bagging awards left and right!
