The first lotus bud makes its appearance!

The first white lotus bud of the season raised its beautiful head out of the murky waters of our lotus pond yesterday! Earlier this year we had cleaned out the entire pond and in the process disrupted the roots and bulbs....so we weren't really expecting any flowers this year! So this was a lovely surprise, because - if you have never seen one - the white lotus is one of the most wondrous and beautiful of flowers! So of course I went berserk taking pics of it. I plan to take one every day till it blooms fully open - should take another week - so you can see the steady progress, kind of like those time lapse photos. Well then I went camera happy and started taking random shots of the garden...so here is the result of my trigger happy Friday! Also the first time you will see pics of my 2 adorable dachshunds....Junglee and Lucy!

The lotus bud - 2 days after I discovered it, probably a week old!
White clematis creeper on the side of the house
Another creeper in the front of the house
Trying my hand at those artsy close up shots...!
The ever popular Rangoon creeper
White portulaca
Hmmm..don't know what this is...? Anyone?
Orange portulaca
Junglee - cute, almond eyed, not very smart, picky eater, loves yogurt and happy even if there is at only one person in the house. As long as he has a body to curl up against, he could care less who it is! Will only sleep under the blanket!
Lucy - cute, round eyed, very smart, very sensitive, hates when my husband is out of town, loves food, will eat ANYTHING! Very sensitive to people and their moods, will only sleep on top of the blanket!

Kamini...your "babies" are adorable!"-- the smart and not so smart ones....I love how they all have their own personalities!

Lucky you...you have a lotus pond. I just found out that lotus ponds are possible in the US as well. My friend in MO has one that survives under the ice and all over winter!!! How cool is that?...Now I'm dreaming of one.....

GB...I'd be happy to mail you seeds as well as instructions. I have a gazillion seeds, each flowerhead produces 10-12 seeds. So let me know, I can mail them to you when I get to the US! They are easy to germinate, just need a wide/deep pot with some pond soil...even 10" to 12" depth is enuf!

Very beautiful garden, Kamini. Where is this lotus pond? We build a small pond in our yard.I had water lilies when we moved to this house. Now I lost all of them. I should try it again.
